Etsy Title Checker

Checks a listing title against the 140-character limit, the first-40 rule, repetition and keyword stuffing.

Listing title 133 / 140

Etsy reads the whole title, but it shows only the front of it and weights the front of it hardest. Everything below updates on every keystroke.

What a shopper sees in search

First 40 characters of 133 — the rest is indexed but never shown here

Type a title on the left — every check runs as you type.

A title has 140 characters, but only the first 40 or so do most of the work — that is what shows in search results and what carries the most matching weight.

This checks the mechanical things you can get wrong before you worry about the wording. It runs entirely in your browser.

How to read this

The first 40 characters should contain the phrase you most want to rank for. Everything after it still counts, but far less.

Repetition wastes room. A word appearing three or more times is not helping you rank three times harder.

Separators are fine in moderation. More than four pipes or dashes reads as stuffing to shoppers as well as to Etsy.

Questions

Should I put my shop name first?
No. It wastes the most valuable part of the title on a term nobody is searching for.
Do commas hurt?
Not in themselves. Too many of anything does.
