A concept you can look at beats a concept you are describing to yourself. This turns a sentence — and a reference image, if you have one — into a design you can judge.

Write the direction: subject, medium, palette, mood. Add a reference if you have one — it is optional, and it pins the subject and rough composition so the sentence only has to carry the style.
Say what medium you want — line art, screen print, watercolour, vector flat — because that single word changes the result more than any other.
Before you build a listing on anything this produces, check two things: that the result reads at thumbnail size, and that it does not resemble an existing brand or character.
